Composition and manufacturing: A combination of nature and craftsmanship

At Gautrot, we firmly believe in the beauty and power of nature. That is why we mainly use wood in the design of our earrings and pendants. Each piece of wood is carefully cut and sanded to obtain the desired shape, making each piece of jewelry one of a kind. The originality of the wood species used and the origin of each species are key elements of our approach. You can learn more about the origin of our wood species on our dedicated page.

Epoxy resin plays a crucial role in preserving the natural beauty of wood. It protects the wood while allowing it to be viewed in all its glory. Unlike bio resin, which is not translucent, epoxy offers unparalleled clarity, even if it is only used in small quantities each year.

Our iridescent jewelry, on the other hand, is adorned with laboratory stones. These stones, created in the laboratory, imitate natural opal through a complex process. Composed of silica and resin, they are shapeable, unlike natural stones which can be damaged easily. Once formed, the stone is then covered with transparent resin, highlighting the interior reliefs of the wood.

It is true that the combination of a natural material such as wood with an "artificial" material such as resin may be surprising. However, resin is the only two-component offering complete protection of wood without altering it. The resin and the laboratory stone ensure the protection of the wood, enhance it and make it resistant to temperature variations and shocks.

When it comes to environmental impact, using natural stones is not necessarily more eco-friendly, given their provenance. In addition, lab-grown stone offers an exceptional iridescent finish, while being resistant to heat and humidity, and at an affordable price.

We also use a technique of saturating the wood with pigments, giving it resistance to humidity and a harmonious color gradient with the grain of the wood.

Each Gautrot jewel is designed and shipped from our workshop located in Vals-les-Bains in Ardèche. Geoffray Guillermain, passionate about woodworking, is the beating heart of this workshop, where each piece is made with love and dedication.

By choosing Gautrot, you are not only choosing a quality piece of jewelry, but also a piece of authentic craftsmanship, the fruit of a passion for nature and art.
